⚡PulseAI – Building My Own AI-Powered Content Studio

Hey everyone 👋,
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on PulseAI, a project that combines my love for building products with my curiosity about AI. I wanted to create a platform where anyone could write articles, generate images, review resumes, edit images and share their creations—all in one place.
In this blog, I’ll take you through why I built PulseAI, what it can do, how I built it, the challenges I faced, and how you can clone & run it yourself.
🌟 Why I Built PulseAI ?
I often found myself juggling multiple AI tools: one for writing, another for images, another for resume reviews. and complete different tool to edit an image. It felt fragmented and messy. So I thought—why not build a single studio that does it all, but with a clean UI and smooth backend?
That’s how PulseAI was born.
✨ Features
PulseAI brings together a suite of AI-powered tools:
📝 AI Article Writer- Generate articles with control over length (short, medium, long).
📰 Blog Title Generator - Create engaging blog titles by keyword + category.
🎨 AI Image Generation - Generate unique images in styles like realistic, anime, or 3D.
🖼 Background And Object Removal – Edit images by removing backgrounds or unwanted objects.
📑 AI Resume Review - Upload your resume (PDF) to get ATS score & feedback.
🌍 Community Hub – Share the generated images and engage with others.
🔐 User Management & Subscriptions – Secure auth (Clerk) + freemium model (free tier + premium).

🛠️ Tech Stack
For this project, I picked a modern SaaS-ready stack:
Frontend: React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, React Router, Axios, Clerk React SDK
Backend: Node.js, Express.js
Database: Neon (serverless PostgreSQL)
Authentication: Clerk
AI APIs: Google Gemini API, ClipDrop API
Image & Asset Management: Cloudinary
Deployment: Vercel
⚡ Challenges I Faced
Authentication & Subscriptions – Free vs premium tiers required careful Clerk + PostgreSQL role-based integration.
Latency in Image Generation – I optimized with Cloudinary + ClipDrop, reducing latency.
User Engagement – The idea of Community Hub was the turning point which can improve retention.
🚀 Getting Started (Run It Locally)
If you’d like to try PulseAI locally, here’s how:
📋 Prerequisites
Node.js (v18.17.0 or higher)
npm (or yarn/pnpm)
Accounts for Clerk, Neon DB, Google Gemini API, ClipDrop, and Cloudinary (for API keys).
🔧 Backend Setup
# Clone the repo
git clone https://github.com/pradyot29/PulseAI.git
# Navigate to server
cd PulseAI/server
# Install dependencies
npm install
Create a .env file inside server/ with:
PORT=3000
DATABASE_URL="your_neon_db_connection_string"
CLERK_SECRET_KEY="your_clerk_secret_key"
GEMINI_API_KEY="your_gemini_api_key"
CLIPDROP_API_KEY="your_clipdrop_api_key"
CLOUDINARY_CLOUD_NAME="your_cloudinary_cloud_name"
CLOUDINARY_API_KEY="your_cloudinary_api_key"
CLOUDINARY_SECRET_KEY="your_cloudinary_secret_key"
Run the backend:
npm run server
👉 Server will run at http://localhost:3000.
🎨 Frontend Setup
# From project root
cd ../client
npm install
Create a .env inside client/ with:
VITE_CLERK_PUBLISHABLE_KEY="your_clerk_publishable_key"
VITE_BASE_URL="http://localhost:3000"
Run the frontend:
npm run dev
👉 Frontend runs at http://localhost:5173.
💡 Lessons Learned
SaaS projects require clean role-based access.
Latency optimization can make/break user experience.
Building a community layer adds more value than just tools.
